avocado toast madrid

avocado toast madrid

[Updated in July 2018]

The best avocado toast in Madrid to me are those six:

  • Pum Pum Cafè
  • HansSo Cafè
  • Federal Cafè
  • Lap Cafè
  • Plantate Cafè
  • Propaganda.

The best avocado toast in Madrid is mine, the one on the cover page. When I can find the perfect avocado I go to my favorite bakery (Panifiesto) and then I can make the best avocado toast in Madrid right in my kitchen.

But of course I cannot produce the best avocado toast in Madrid for all the avocado toast lovers, so here my short list with pictures and comments for the best bar serving the yummiest avocado toasts in Madrid.

1.Pum Pum Cafè

pumpum cafè madrid pumpum cafè madrid

I love this place and their toast is the best, I mean I can’t reproduce Eggs Benedict, and I don’t know where this bread comes from but it’s great!

And the matcha latte .. look how perfect it looks like!

PUM PUM Cafè – Calle Tribulete, 6, 28012 Madrid

More info here: PUM PUM cafè.

2.Hanso Cafè

Hanso cafè madrid

These japanese guys are latte artists, I love all the videos they have on Instagram. The avocado toast here is great, but to me their very best is the matcha waffle, because it’s unique here in Madrid.

I am so glad to share this picture because it was the first one I uploaded on Madridiana Instagram, and I totally remember that day, with my favourite flower skirt.

HanSo Cafè – Calle del Pez, 20, 28004 Madrid

More Info here: HanSo Cafè.

3.Federal Cafè

federal cafè madrid federal cafè madrid

This is the coolest place in town because it’s a bar after all, but the design is such fine with all that marble that I really can’t imagine a brighter and modern space. The real example of less is more with a classy hint.

My favorite food here is the bowls, especially when chia seeds are included. Like in this first picture. The well, we were talking about the best avocado toast in Madrid, so I am showing you the second picture, from my personal account (shhhhhh) where I could not resist to the toast and I had to do the «food blogger» picture with half of the food.

But they were great, the nuts dust they put on the top it’s something special.

Federal Cafè Madrid – Plaza de las Comendadoras, 9, 28015 Madrid.

More info here: Federal Cafè.

4. Lap Cafè

I had to update this article and add my actual avocado toast, because I am still in love with Pum Pum but honestly cannot stand the queue and the infinite wait. Now you can eat avocado toast basically everywhere, even in the toda la vida bar, the hype is incredible.

This hype brought me to try new places, especially in my barrio, Lavapies, and discover a couple of hidden gems that I really suggest you to try.

Lap Cafè is the definition of a hidden gem, you won’t find it in Tapas Magazine or in the most well-known blogs, it doesn’t stand out, for its position and you definitely have to enter see the menu and meet the owners. What surprised me the most were the ingredients, real food, great qualities, nice decorations, it’s my fave.

5. Plantate Cafè

Our second favourite place in Lavapies right now (July 2018) is Plantate cafè, finally a good bar en Calle Meson de Paredes! We have seen so many bars open and close in few months in the same streets, but Plantate has its own identity that attracts avocado lovers from different parts of Madrid.

The mood is super international, the bar it’s really tiny but specialty coffee lovers are going crazy with their selection, and again the guys working there are super cool. You can actually buy plants, books, and design while sipping your coffee or biting your toast. Genial!

6.Propaganda

Avocado toast during weekends is synonymous with brunch. If you are a brunch lover and want to try a special tostada with Italian cheese and hams, chilling in one of the coolest wineries in Chueca, well, Propaganda is your place.

The champagne brunch is the best treat you can have on a Sunday morning. The avocado is the protagonist too and can be mixed with salmon, burrata or eggs, and the result is quintessential of deliciousness.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

On my ATTD (avocado toast to do) list before selecting the best avocado toast in Madrid I still have to visit:

  • The Toast Cafè
  • Monkey Coffe
  • Toma Caffè (I’ve been but didn’t eat avocado)
  • Hola Cafè (I’ve been but tried other types of tostada )
  • Cripeka
  • Angelica (in Calle Segovia) they also do the Avocado Burger!!!
El sitio moncloa

I’ve been very few times to Moncloa so far, I don’t know why, but everytime I realize that it’s not that far as I have Always thought and for sure not that bad, because it’s full of nice places like El Sitio.

I started following El Sitio during last summer, attracted by the handwritten logo and all the tasty pictures they were posting. When on Saturday I was walking around Moncloa looking for a nice quiet place to have lunch and the «El Sitio» logo appear I could not have any doubt. It was the place I’ve always followed, finally in real life and not only on Instagram.

The light comes from all the sides, and the design of the space is modern and warm. I loved the chairs and the chalk graphics all over the place.

You read «para picar» but the food you’ll get it’s a lot for one person, better share different things between friends. You can’t me the «cazuelita» of El Sitio, or the queso one, that you can see in the pictures above. All the people around me were enjoying it and the egg in the middle of it is the perfect surprise, really tasty.

Even if their are famous for the pizza I prefered to try the German dish, with wurstel and potatoes. I have to admit these wurstel are special, you can’t find it at the supermarket. I went completely crazy for the curry one, easily recognizable for its color, super Yellow.

For sure I am going to come back, maybe one evening and try all the missing food, like pizza or crepes.

barcelò torre madrid

Weeks ago I was going to the see an Italian movie in the Cinema close to Plaza de Espana. There was a sort of Italian Film Festival and they were screening «Jeeg Robot D’accaio» that had a tremendous success in Italy.

While walking through the continuation of Gran Via over Plaza de Espana, I discovered this huge building that seems to be a very modern hotel going to open soon.

I have Always loved the restaurants and cocktails bar inside the hotels in Milan, with Bulgari and Diana Sharaton, and here in Madrid too. Only You Atocha is a great example of a innovative concept, or all the Room Mate, Oscar for sure with his Amazing terrace.

All these examples of great hotels have that je-ne-sais-quoi that can differentiate their offer between all the Others.

Barceló Torre de Madrid really strenght it’s uniqueness with an incredible architecture from the outside and a great design on the inside.

The view is reserved at the higher floors for the hotel accommodations and the spa. The cocktail bar, that you can see in these pictures, is on the ground floor, the restaurant named Somos garra is on the first floor, which is even enough to enjoy the view of the Gran Via rising and Plaza de Espana shining through the fountains water.

I loved the atmosphere of the bar and service was perfect. I mean. if you bring me nuts and candies I’ll be in love with you forever.

My cocktail is sin alcohol, don’t remember the name, I was so impressed by the menu design, looking like a Pantone palette, but gold.

georgia madrid khachapuri

Have you ever eat in a Restaurant from Georgia?

I’ve never, until Yesterday night, starving after more than a two hours play at the theatre.

In the middle of Chueca I was looking for something new, didn’t want to try another japanese or thai restaurant.

Here comes Khachapuri. Their logo is super clear, I immediately understood what was the typical dish they were symbolizing, and I thought: «Ok, let’s do it».

And if I am writing this article is because I discovered something new that I would love to suggest.

Khachapuri you might have guessed right was my choice. The fact that traditionally you have to eat it with hands give to this tasty sort of pizza an advantage because I love eating with the hands. The touch and smell feelings are stronger when you leave the cutlery aside.

Unfortunately Yesterday I went out without my Nikon camera, so the pictures are all made with my phone. I really didn’t expect to discover such a lovely place.

Because in Calle Victor Hugo 5 is not only the food that rules this place, the atmosphere and the design of the restaurant is special. Perfect colors, perfect lights and all the graphics are extremely cool.

I definitely have to come back, the food was great, I mean a cheese overdose is Always welcome. And in the end, my fear was let me be sincere, not to digest all that cheese and the melted butter over it, but I didn’t had any problem.

Enjoy my Sony XZ pictures until I will be back with my camera, or even better, you should go, taste and see the khachapuri yourself.

Keyaan's madrid

Keyaan's madrid

Keyaan’s was a pleasant discover on a very slow Sunday morning, walking in Chamberi, shooting the ABC museum and recording a group of enthusiastic grampies playing bowls in the middle of the park. I can stay hours watching these kind of everyday scenes.

The colours of Keyaan’s windows and the smell of strong coffee caught my attention even if I was a bit sleepy and haven’t had nothing for breakfast.

What’s better than a very good espresso with a special latino mix of coffee beans?

The answer is: an espresso with a sweet empanada. White chocolate and Oreo. I really don’t know why but even if I am used to drink coffee without sugar (only good coffee like Keyaan’s), I really can’t sip my hot espresso without a sweet beside.

The atmosphere in Calle Blasco de Garay at number 10 is really nice, the tables are simple and well separated, the noise of the city is left outside the light blue crystal door. All the colours of the walls, the chairs, the paintings, are the perfect match for an immersive Dominican Republic experience.

I sat on the table close to the main window, where there was the huge Keyaan’s lettering and the perfect shooting light and it was really funny to watch people walking over on the Street, looking at me biting the delicious empanadas.

I’ve tried almost everything, starting from the morir soñando, a very typical Dominican batido. Taking a refresco would probably ruin the 360° experience.

Zakiya, the Londoner owner, with her Dominican husband in the kitchen shaping all the best tradition of his roots into super tasty bowls of food, explained me all the dishes and the specialities of the Menu.

You can quickly understand how much love and care this young and beautiful couple have put in their entrepreneurship adventure. Everything is curated by them, and the name of course, directly form their son’s ID, Keeyan’s is his second name.

But let’s go back to the food :)

I do believe that when I was tasting my yuca bollitos filled with cheese, people watching from the outside might have thought I was really delighted by those bites, same for the quiped bollitos filled with meat. That smooth black pepper in both bollitos really brought me to heaven.

If you are lucky enough to work or live close to this empanadas heaven you might also enjoy their crazy monday promotion from their Facebook page. I will definitely come back soon, probably in the weekend again, or for a Locura Monday, will see.

Hermos y Malditos madrid

Hermos y Malditos madrid

I’ve discovered Hermos y Malditos as soon as their Instagram profile was opened. Probably one of the most interesting Instagram feed I’ve ever seen. It was clear to me that I would love the place. Reading a bit more about the cocktail bar I also discovered the cocktail menu had one super hipster mixology tresure called «Wes Anderson».

Obviously yesterday when I finally had the chance to go there I took a quick look at the menu and ordered cocktail named as one of my favourite movie director. The very kind barman told me that due to the decision of creating this Scott Fitzgerald atmosphere, this key cocktail was renamed as the famous writer. Hermos y Malditos is infact the spanish version of the very renowned «The Beautiful and Damded».

Well, the cocktail was very good, and I also appreciate the candies and the still water as soon as I sat down to the blue velvet sofa (yes, another Director’s quote, Mr. David Lynch).

This is a very unique location, the music with the deejay was perfect, the design of the cocktail room was perfect. I didn’t have my Nikon Camera with me, so all the pictures were taken with my new mobile phone. I am getting used to it, and was a bit tipsy because of the cocktail, but the result is quite good for a Sony XZ.

[This is not a Spanish Restaurant, it’s a gratitude post about an unexpected present I’ve received yesterday]

Spending the xmas Holidays away from home is kind of weird, probably the first time, than it should become more easy.

You know I bought my first serious camera during these holidays, and it was an Amazing xmas present for myself. But Yesterday a courier rang my door with a mystery pack.

Two bottles of Wine were included and a series of instructions on how to serve them properly.

The real deal was the name of the producer, I mean the wine producer, it was called like me, Diana. I guess nothing was left to chance.

Even the name of this first red win was chosen with care. The description of it states:

BONARDA  – The Faithful Companion – Bosco del pozzo
The purple notes of the Croatina grape have developed into a ruby red. We can taste the berries, in particular, blackberries. It now has a more robust body, and there is a persistent aftertaste. Ripa del Ciliegio shows how the most traditional grape of the Oltrepò, usually used for sparkling wines, can also express itself perfectly in this still wine, producing something original and of stature. It is the ideal companion to those more sophisticated dishes.

I know, I am very lucky to have friends like this, and miss a lot the weekends spent together hiking.

MERCADO ANTON MARTIN

MERCADO ANTON MARTIN

I love all the Madrid markets, probably I can even start a blog only about food markets.

I don’t know if all my interested is due to my father. He was working in markets selling fruits, and when I was a child I used to reach him sometimes.

It’s a very hard work and I totally respect all the workers that everyday wake up and open their stalls, even if it’s cold, it’s hard and all a lot of the other stalls are closed, it is still a beautiful job.

Let’s talk about pichos and Golfo de Bizkaia.

Pinchos are the quintessential of the North of Spain Tapas. The used to put almost everything on a little slice of bread with a toothpick on it.

At the end of the lunch or dinnr, or just happy hour, you count how many toothpicks are left on the dish and that’s it.

The position of the Madrid Restaurant is great, in my favourite barrio: Las Letras, just behind the famous Plaza Santa Ana.

gigi meet me madrid

gigi meet me madrid

I am really in love with Gigi Meet me Bar. You cannot walk along calle Luchana and hesitate a few minutes trying to get sneak peek of this lovely restaurant. The elegance and all the details of the main room will encourage you to get in. It looks a lot like a French or better Parisian bistrot, but it’s 100% from Madrid, behind Gigi there is a gran mujer Pilar Menéndez. She welcomes her guests as Gigi like if the restaurant was a real house with lovely tables, pink velvelt and a very familiar fireplace.

A great idea for a breakfast, a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner. Not to forget the Croque Madame you can find at Gigi’s brunch. Just watching the menu you can easily fall in love as I did.

Last time I went there it was after a great morning at the Museo Sorolla. 10-15 minutes walking and here we are in calle Luchana.
